Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
I went to Goucher for one year before transferring to a larger university. I would say the students are very naieve and close minded, in the sense that if you are not a super-leftwing liberal you are an evil person (and i've voted democratic in every election/worked on Obama's campaign). If you are a not a radical feminist, you are seen as a male chauvinistic asshole. I was never challenged as a person here at goucher. Every viewpoint i saw was the same, and there was no real discourse. Professors were great and helpful, but you can only go so far with such a homogenous student body. The social scene was wack. No body really parties, and the few parties that go down get busted within an hour. The school does put on some events, but they are frankly lame and for the people who believe drinking a beer will kill them. This leaves a lot of the "real" social life to be in locked dorm rooms, quietly drinking in order to not get into trouble. There was some off campus parties, but because of strange housing laws they are in apartments and usually get shut down quickly. Weed, however, was extremely well tolerated. The student body is extremely apathetic in regards to school spirit. I came to Goucher partly to play soccer, and I never expected it to be a huge jock school. But the majority of people i have met that were non-athletes were downright hostile to us athletes. The athletic department was unprofessional and lacking in a lot of aspects. Housing for freshman was terrible. I was in a forced triple (a double made into a triple by adding a freestanding dresser and closet), however the school claims that this was not the case. Most of on-campus housing is overcrowded, yet the make it nearly impossible for most people to move off campus. The overall vibe i got from the school was if the most awkward kid from each highschool social group got together and decided to form a school. Lots of kids playing pokemon trading card and magic the gathering, and not a lot of kids playing beer pong or flip cup. I think Goucher works for a lot of people, but it is not the "college" experience. I expected Goucher to be a normal college experience, but on a smaller scale but i was wrong.
