I was an undergraduate of this private school in 1985/86 and it was one of the worse experiences of my life. It goes without saying Ogelthrope Univesity has a long history of only caring about how much money they can extract from transfer and all other incoming students. Once O.U. received monies from me through Finnical Aid, their system began to increase pressure on me to either drop out or transfer to somewhere else just to get rid of me. This was accomplished through a constantly changing, nebulish set of academic standards; one set for all O.G. students supposedly unbiased, another set for those students who live off campus but might still be allowed to be accepted into the inner circle of perfered students and finally, a set of standards for those students who were only allowed in for the money Ogelthrope can take. O.U. is very much inclined toward asking so-called beloved former students for more money even after they have been deemed "academically inferior" according to these "unique" standards. All universities, private and public, in the United States must adhere to policies as determined by peer review and the U.S. Department of education. The university adminstration in the 1980's was a joke and remains so well into the 21st century. At no time during my tenure as an undergraduate, did any O.U. admistrator make themselves available even when I had made repeated requests to discuss clarifaction of the university's academic policies and expectations after being subjected to the same said treatment by the facuity. The only time a university official was visable was when there was a public relations event on campus. I found that there was a true divide among the students. Normally, there is a strong desire of students to avoid "In Loco Parentis" but not at Oglethrope University. This is most likely because those who can afford to live on campus are the most favoured students both by the adminstration and the professors. These students are all too aware of their status and made certain the rest of us knew it. Acamedic policies, set both by the university and many of the professors, were curiously relaxed for these students who also were the biggest "party animals" on campus. Really, don't waste your time or your money. AVOID O.U. and attend a real university which cares about you and measures their sucess on real values. Can your GPA afford to be ruined by unverifiable standards? Do you desire to have a fighting chance to be admitted into graduate school?
