Major: Sociology (This Major's Salary over time)
The quality of education at UML really depends on your department. Students in the Sciences do well and are getting a good education at a value. As are students in the Music and Art programs. As a Sociology major I would advise people to either choose a better major, or study Sociology at a better institution. The full time professors are great, intelligent and approachable people, but the quality of the student body hurts the program. Most of the students in the major are only there because they couldn't cut it in other departments. The major is not particularly rigorous so many students just float along and graduate. For those who are interested in the subject, there are very few courses to choose from. However, professors are accommodating and are happy to do independent studies for credit.Overall the general stupidity of the majority of the Liberal Arts student body is what hurts UML. Still the low price tag makes suffering through this place doable. I started at a community college and transfered to UML with no trouble and have lived off campus so my final bill will be shockingly small. With the problems that this country is having economically likely to continue for years to come it is best that students save the fantasy of the "dream school" for graduate study. For undergrad, which has become meaningless, swallow your pride, save your money and go to UML. At least here you will stand out as a scholar if you have more than 6 brain cells.
