The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is definitely not for everyone. I came into this university with optimism and the desire to soak up all that this institution had to offer me. Las Vegas was my town and I loved my hometown with a passion. Plus UNLV has one of the best Hospitality Programs in the Nation.
Now it's been two years and all i have to look forward to is the chance for me to transfer to a different university. Far away from the mess and headache that the Nevada system of higher learning has given me.I live at home about 20 minutes away from the university and i feel like an outsider. Unless you live in a dorm, your friends are basically the ones you had in High School. Meeting people here is like Storming the Beaches of Normandy, theres a lot of work involved in making friends. I had to dumb myself down for some and pretend to be something i'm not to be regarded as a person here. My close friends are far off having life changing experiences in other colleges and the friends I Do have here are distanced by the miles that separate me and the university. I have tried on numerous occasions to make myself a part of the University and find my so called niche. But the university seemed content that I was a wandering lone soul among the sea of thousands. Of course many here have a great time and never think twice about going to another college. Unfortunately, that is not me. In a radical point of view, people here are content with a mediocre sense of school spirit. It seems commonplace to be apathetic about how the cost of tuition is rapidly rising, the cutting of departments, how the football team is the practice game for our instate rival (as well as the rest of the NCAA), and the decline in the quality of education. I recall a UNLV protest against an increase in tuition as well as a protest against the cutting of various departments. Of the tens of thousands of students affected, only a few hundred showed up. If you've read this far, I wish anyone attending UNLV a happy and positive education. But as for me, Screw u guys!!! Im Going Home…or leaving.
