I did not have a particularly "good" experience at Ouachita. I was often lonely, and the attempts I made to establish friendships (through organizations, ect) always seemed to explode in my face. I am shy by nature, which is NOT a good quality at this school. It's a very social school that thrives on its clubs and other social activities. There are NO academic organizations aside from Honors Societies. Basically, everything besides class is fluff, fluff, fluff.

There are many "picture perfect" students, who look like television stars and make it onto the web site and all the brochures, and likewise many model students who are singled out and praised by professors, but if you do not fit either of these categories, you can easily go unnoticed and fall to the wayside.

I often felt depressed. No one ever reached out to me, for friendship, class notes, anything. And I worried that there was something wrong with me. Maybe I smelled funny? Talked funny? Was I really that awkward? I made two lasting friendships and one solid acquaintance at this school. And that was all. And maybe that was my fault. All I can say is that I am glad my college experience is over now. I am not even motivated to visit campus or go back for homecoming. I will not donate money to this school or encourage anyone to attend here. If I could go back in time, I might chose a state school over this private institution.

I know many of the "picture perfect" students I mentioned earlier describe Ouachita as the best four years of their life, but that is not the case for everyone. I just wanted to let people know that Ouachita is not the pristine, pollyanna world so many students and professors try and make it out to be.
