Iowa State is a fantastic institution to attend, if you are truly interested in turning your hard earned money into a lifelong education. My advisor answered EVERY SINGLE annoying question that I ever asked him, and I sure asked him a LOT. Every teacher I encountered truly wanted us to exceed, and at the beginning of most semesters, teachers would throw it out there that if we needed help on other stuff, besides academia, they would extend a helping hand. I took several professors up on this to let them help me learn about where I wanted to go with my degree, post-graduation.Iowa State U. will challenge you, so if you want an easy 'A', this is not the college for you. Some of the intro physics, chem, and biology classes ARE large, but that setting helped me realize that I can't be walked though every class. My teachers were helpful, but didn't have to "baby" me along. After one or two intro classes, I noticed class size drop dramatically. My last 5 or 6 semesters usually had 20-30 people in them.Campus is beautiful. Appreciate it while you're there, since I miss it. Even when it was bustling with people, I felt like I could find my own hide-away spot. The library is great, too, with plenty of clean places to study and a cafe inside to boot.Other than classes and studying, I felt like I almost had to TRY to be bored. Many people complain that there isn't anything to do on campus when there are a TON of clubs to be involved in. These clubs turn into weekend activities or leadership positions. Try volunteering at the veterinary clinic, hospital, or a woman's shelter. For those who say there isn't enough to do, the people aren't pretty enough, and the bars are lacking…There's much more to Ames than these few things. You're just looking in the wrong places. Welch Ave. is a great place to be on occasion, but there is plenty more to do besides drinking. Oh, and the outdoor rec program has weekend trips basically every weekend. I am really happy with my undergraduate life at ISU in Ames and wish I had appreciated it more while I was there.
