I immensely regret spending so much time, energy, and money on Hartwick College. I went to the school because they offered me the most money, but Hartwick hands out scholarships like candy. Even the most dimwitted meatheads get some sort of scholarship. So where's the fun in that?

Oneonta is a shitty, shitty place to live. While there are some nice days that can be spent on Strawberry Fields and the valley really does look pretty in autumn, there is simply no way to look past the fact that Oneonta is home to rednecks, WalMart, and college kids. This wouldn't be so bad if Hartwick had a strong, extracurricular program like they boast, but really? The student body is APATHETIC to everything. Except for sporting events, students can be found either eating, in the library, or in their dorm rooms using illegal substances and drinking. Also, the SUNY kids hate Hartwick students, so inter-collegiate mingling is very limited.

The SINGLE redeeming aspect of this school are the professors. I was in the English program and I sincerely loved every one of my English professors and a bunch of professors out of the Eng. dept as well. I am a good, respectful, student, and I was treated with respect and care by most of my professors.

GREEK LIFE at Hartwick is lame. Freshmen be warned, it's fun the first year or two, but it gets old fast. The same people doing the same thing every weekend can drive a person insane. Unless you're into alcoholism and hazing.

One of my girlfriends joined a sorority and ended up leaving Hartwick because she was so miserable.

STUDENT BODY is basically homogenous. Rich, white kids as far as the eye can see. Nobody is blatantly mean, but nobody is overly friendly either. I had an extremely hard time keeping the same friends all four years because everyone either transferred, flunked out, or joined a Greek chapter.

Overall, if you like the cliquey-ness of high school, then Hartwick is for you. You wont ever have to leave the small, claustrophobic campus or your group of apathetic, whitebread, druggie friends to find happiness in Oneonta.
