This is a current review of Dillard University. I was a freshman at Dillard University class of 2014.

Campus Life- Campus life on Dillard is unapparent. There are roughly 3-5 events that occur on the campus. These events are only used to lure incoming students, an attempt to keep current students , or impress visitors to Dillard's campus. A typical day in Dillard's campus is walking around the extremely small campus , and seeing the same students EVERY-SINGLE day. Due to the small amount of students that attend Dillard, you can expect everyone on campus to indulge themselves in other's business. Whether its true or not by the end of each semester you will have a story assigned to you.

Educational Factors- Dillard has a strong nursing program , in which a large portion of the students are in. The professors are adequate in providing a simple education. The courses are barley challenging , and resembles high school. The small class size can be an advantage to some , but when you are paired with a student who can barely read, the size of the class becomes irrelevant. Due to the open-enrollment policy enacted, to increase the enrollment numbers, you have students who can not function is a classroom setting, cannot read, and interrupts teachers.

Setting- Dillard is located in the 7th ward in New Orleans. The city of New Orleans, has some things to offer. In walking distance of the school , there is a Walgreens, Family Dollar and a few other stores. If you do not have a vehicle, you can use the public transportation if you are willing to wait hours for a single bus. Its roughly 5 miles away from downtown New Orleans, which carries the most attractions of New Orleans, but after a few weeks Downtown New Orleans becomes repetitive. The environment itself was surprisingly safe. There was no known incidents , of robbery, car-break-ins or anything of the sort.

On-Campus Housing- Dillard currently (2010-2011) has about 3 destroyed unoccupied halls. Two of which was supposed to be completed by the end of the spring semester. All of these halls are located on the campus, and gives the campus a less-than professional appearance. There are two functional halls , one which houses freshman girls and the other that houses co-ed upperclassmen. There are two off-campus locations , one that houses freshman men , sophomore women and men. The on-campus housing for freshmen women have had reports of roaches and rats. There was a constant outage of hot water in all of the halls and housing departments. Housing issues take a ridiculously long amount of time to be tended to. You would expect things to be completed at a reasonable amount of time , with the amount of money you pay for tuition , but any concerns or issues you have are undoubtably ignored and the common saying around campus is

thats Dillard for you , or welcome to Dillard
I could go on about all of the housing issues , but am afraid that there are too many to list.

Summary- Dillard University is not what you imagine as a four year private institute. There are so many issues with this school it is ridiculous. I was an enthused high school senior when I was informed about Dillard. After my first few weeks , all of my dreams of living a typical college life at a university were crushed. Dillard recruiters will "sell you the dream" of attending Dillard , but NONE of them will tell you all of the downfalls with attending Dillard. Even current professors say that Dillard is not what a university should be. Every university has its negative notes , but Dillard's negative notions outweighs its positives. I hope that this review will help you in making your design about attending Dillard University.
