I personally have enjoyed my time at Seton Hall, but I didn't come here with high expectations nor is it hard for me to find contentment. I ended up meeting some really good people here. Many people end up not liking Seton Hall and here are a couple reasons why that might be. From my experience, most people are friendly, but you have every type of person on campus ranging from over-priveleged, rich kids to ghetto kids. It is a heavy commuter school, so campus life is weak and so is Greek life, but those who join Greek life seem to enjoy the university a little bit better. Parties are low key and usually in basements, but they rarely turn away students at the door, everyone is welcome. Once in a blue moon will you attend an "American Pie" style rager. They occur more often at big state schools, but they are more exclusive. South Orange is weak in terms of a college town,it's a residential town with a nice small downtown. There aren't many bars or clubs for college kids to hang out at night. If you choose to partake in nightlife, Newark, Hoboken, and New York City are just a train ride away. Public transportation is easy, but college kids seem to want to have their cars, which you can't have on campus until your Senior year. South Orange itself isn't a bad town, but there is some crime spillover from nearby East Orange and Newark. Just be safe and be smart and you won't run into trouble. People fail to realize that this is North Jersey, this area is tough, it's very urban.
