Valpo is what you make of it. Bottom line. I'm from the south where all of my friends go to large universities (mainly UGA, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, and Ole Miss)and it gets extemely depressing when you visit their schools because you realize what you're missing out on. Having mentioned that, Valpo has the potential to be just as fun as the large schools- students need to make it happen. DO SOMETHING. Too many introverted kids won't get past the shock that college kids like to (and have a right to) having a good time even if that inlcludes getting smashed on the weekend to forget about the ridiculous amounts of hw you just slaved through (engineering). I'm starting a project on campus this fall 2011 semester that will try to make Valpo feel fun for students for once and involve a tailgate for football (which no one ever does)- as long as VUPD doesn't fuck it up. VUPD is the main reason students don't have fun on campus. They ruin EVERYTHING. My friend got arrested his freshman year for minor in consumption while SLEEPING in his dorm room. Sleeping! They woke his ass up because of his loud and obnoxious room mate (who was making noise in the hallway) and took him to jail. Who the fuck does that? If you like to party and drink, unless you're 21, you have an extremely large chance of getting arrested unless you know where to go and what to do. My advise is to find a friend (look for fraternity guys roaming hallways for guys to play sports, they have a lot of experience and know how to stay safe) who knows where to go. There are a couple of safe fraternities and one fraternity who takes seemingly ridiculous measures (but in actuality it's in the best interest of the underagers) to keep their house under control and make sure VUPD doesn't ruin the weekend or the year. Valpo has so much potential but there is little effort to excavate it. If students would just innovate and take initiative to make this place better- it would be.

If you are currently a student at valpo- freshman up through senior- look out for some changes this fall 2011. It's time to step up and make this place worth going to.

Best advice: GO GREEK. Being in a fraternity was the best decision-hands down.
