The University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh (UWO) is a nicely sized school. On a daily basis, there will be many familiar faces in addition to the thousands of students not know. There is not much diversity, or many students looking to make new friends, at UWO because a large percentage of the students come from nearby east Wisconsin and attend with old high school friends. Many students commute to UWO, which contributes to the low level of out-of-class activities on campus. There are few guest speakers, musical performances, theatre, or celebrations to attend on campus. Poor attendance is common; there are usually just a few dozen students at jazz ensemble performances and 100 or so students at home basketball games (despite an exciting player who was one of the best in the WIAC). Some will find the selection of student clubs and organizations adequate; others will find it limited. Playing intramural sports can be fun, but it is hard to get on a team as so few students play. UWO is excellent for students who like to attend off-campus parties. Two busy roads traveling through campus can make it hard to get to class and around. With huge grass expanses and a few trees here and there, the landscaping on campus is very dull. Like most every school, UWO has its share of poor and excellent professors. Outside the college of business, professors at UWO are generally friendly, approachable, and helpful. The professors who are excellent are perhaps the best part of UWO. Classes are, in general, easy; freshman introductory classes at the University of Minnesota ? Twin Cities (UMN) are more difficult than many upper level classes at UWO. With a little effort and study, a student can be top student in a class of 150. For some, the lack of a challenge makes coursework seem like busywork. There are very few places to study outdoors, and the library can become full and noisy at times. Despite this, UWO manages to sometimes be pleasant on a day to day basis. I feel I am relatively qualified to evaluate UWO; I graduated from UWO after three years of attendance, completed my freshman year at UMN, and took a summer course at the University of Wisconsin ? Stevens Point.
