Ga State is an ?okay? school, nothing more from an academic standpoint. Classes & professors ,like any other insitution, range from ry god none outsanding that I nor ay of my riends ha)to absolutely dreadful. No surprises there, as 90% of schoos fall into that catgory.

What really hurts GSU is the Administration & the location. Administration is very dysfunctional and incompetent. Paperwork is routinely lost, especially financial aid stuff. Youre stupid if you don?t keep a copy of EVERYTHING you turn into the offices there! And don?t expect stuff to be processed in a timely manner. They are notorious for that- ask anybody you know who?s gone there. GSU is known as the stepchild of the Georgia University system. This hurts them in funding and lack of world class faculty. Labs are not great, technology is lacking.

The location is abysmal. Downtown Atlanta, in the highest crime zone in the city. Look it up!

People call GSA Ghetto State University! Seriously! Car thefts, breakins, burglary at on and off campus housing, students mugged and constantly hassled by homeless people as you walk to class! Dorms aren?t real close to most of your classes. So you have to suffer the walk through the abyss or wait on the shuttle. Leave a lot of time for that- it takes the most retarded route I?ve ever seen, and they are always stuck in traffic. Makes you late to class a lot! They?re everywhere. When you get off MARTA, when you go to classroom buildings, I mean everywhere! Crackheads begging money, weed, andything you will give them. This isn?t some exciting place with great attractions & nightlife. You don?t dare go out at night. But look at the bright side- you?re only a few short blocks and a quick ambulance ride to Grady hospital, if you can get the police and emt?s to even respond to your mugging. If GSU were in a better city than Atlanta it might be a better experience. After 2 semesters I transferred out. I won?t remember my year there fondly at all.

Professors are okay, I didn?t have any that were outstanding. Had a good number of grad students teaching too. Why we have to pay a fortune to have a student who doesn?t know much more than us teaching us should be a crime. For a lab, maybe but not lectures. Tutoring services here is also known as a joke. I?ve also witnessed a lot of cheating. Nobody cares.

I came from Carrollton and lived on campus. That was a mistake but so is commuting. Kids say the drive into town is long and parking if you can get it is a ripoff. You have to leave so much time for traffic & parking & getting to class, you waste half your day doing that. Everything here to do is either clubs (not safe to go to at night), or tourist traps like Coke museum, aquarium, concerts & sporting events. It?s all outrageously expensive. You?ll go broke really quick doing that. And if you drive from home, studying at home is not a real college experience and not condusive to good grades and habits.

Wish I could be more positive but it?s the truth. The school is in a ghetto and that?s never gonna change. The recruiters sell it as exciting. But the hard truth is it?s just a pit. They won?t tell you the truth or take you anywhere on a tour or orientation but the nice spots. I think that getting a great job with a degree from GSU would be a problem due to the low prestige and low esteem its held in by top employers.
