Prospective students need to realize that Olivet like any other university is primarily a business( a non-profit one at least on the books). This means that its focus is on money and its reputation even at the expense of students or faculty. Although it claims to be a Christian institution this Christianity only expresses itself if it does not interfere with obtaining more money or enhancing its reputation. There are of course individual exceptions that express Christianity without regard to money or reputation

Olivet's slogan was

Education with a Christian purpose
,but i hardly see that posted on any of its signs anymore.

The Bourbonnais campus is beautiful and has a pleasant atmosphere ,but hopefully any student that spends more than $30k a year would expect this from their university.

The student body does live up to its reputation of being arrogant and cold. Individuals rarely even have the courtesy to even say hello something even a random stranger typically has the manners to say. Admission counselors are extremely friendly ,but rarely know what they are talking about.

Student life can fun even though alot of students complain about the rules they are rarley enforced. I've known students that have drunk, smoked marj, and done other things that violate community rules and the worst thing that Olivet does is suspend them for a semester and make them go to counseling. I've heard about other students doing the same things at other Christian colleges and being expelled.

Remember Olivet is a business and one metric that they would like to improve is their retention rate (a high retention rate looks good to the accreditation bodies). They have even devoted an entire building to improving the retention rates of students.

Faculty abilities are mixed. Professors are either good or mediocre. The university seems to be on a path to hire more and more adjuncts to teach their classes inorder to save money by not hiring full time professors.

Academics are mixed some courses are more difficult then others ,but it seems like the courses offered here are not as difficult as other courses i've taken from other institutions. I've known a couple students that have plagerized in their course work and the only thing that happens to them was that they recieved a zero on their assignment. When i took courses at a state college one of the students plagerized some material on their assignment they didn't recieve a zero on their assignment they were failed.

I haven't had to much interaction with staff besides in financial aid or students accounts. They seem friendly ,but i'm sure they are underpaid.
