A lot of these "complaints"can actually be found in most universities around the country. Most schools require you to take a
foreign language while at the university if you're a Liberal Arts student. MOST if not every school has assigned registration, its the nature of the game. This allows students who are closer to graduating first pick at the classes they need before graduation it's as simple as that. They don't have as many classes to take so they get first pick.MOST schools don't show what grad student is teaching a particular class because most the time they have no idea who's gonna teach the class either!!! I just want people to know this before they think this something unique to FIU when it's in fact not. |
MDC has quality of education and organization. FIU is a joke. |
Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
I hate this school. I have told everyone that once MDC offers a 4 year program in my major I'm switching out. Yes! I would rather go to MDC! Firstly, if you're in the college of Arts & Sciences you have to take 2 language requirments all over again, even if you took them in high school. I don't get that. I mean if you're in hospitality or bussiness okay fine. You should take foreign languages cause your choice of career will have you talking with many different people, but arts and sciences? Makes no sense. Secondly, since FIU is short on funds they charge useless fees every semester. Up too $300 every semester. $80 for a parking fee. Even if you carpool or even walk to school, they refuse to wave the parking fee. Some students ARE paying $80 even if they don't use the service. WTF! Thirdly, they give assigned registration dates. If you want to register for classes early you can't. They give priority to seniors, first semester freshman and athletes! And if your class is full by the time your turn comes up…..oh well. Too bad. Once I could only register for 1 class. Fourthly, if you want a good teacher for a tough subject like math they won't disclose who is a grad student teacher on the course catalog. I got stuck with an asian grad student teacher for Stats and she couldn't teach. She also could care less about how the students were doing. I paid for stats and a $150 text book and have to take it all over again. Fifthly, they have Gov. Rick Scotts executive office on the MMD campus. What the hell!! He cuts funding for higher education and yet FIU has his office on their campus. I am born and raised in Miami and I even hate this school. I know of a lot of people who themselves or who have friends that are having a really hard time with this school. The staff could care less about you and their web sites are screwed up, difficult to use and navigate around. Save yourself the trouble and go to FAU,UM(if you can afford it), UCF or UF. Anyone can get into FIU even with a low SAT score. They just want to let anyone in so they can get their money.
