Major: Social Work (This Major's Salary over time)
The most commonly said problems are tuition- Yes. It is exepensive. But the people that are complaining knew the tuition before they went here so I do not understand why suddenly the complainers are mad about it. The social life- it is what you make of it. American Pie and Greek is not the real world. However, there are parties everywhere during the weekends if you have friends and there are a number of clubs. These complaints are from people that have no friends or are sitting and waiting for a carnival to open around them. The academics- Obviously, it varies depending on your program. One complain was about how bad the art program is, but honestly, that is the norm in any college. Art majors generally are not intellectuals, they are artists. Now if you're a computer science major, that is more difficult. Clearly some programs are more challenging than others. Honors Program- everyone is saying its too hard or it is too easy. In order to stay you have to maintain a 3.4 GPA. This is obviously easier for some majors than others as music/art majors can get away with it with minimal effort while premed or biology majors are going to have to work at it. But the scholarships are at least 13,000. I would like to think it takes some effort to maintain.Basically, every school has haters. Every school has flaws. But this school is not more flawed than any other. Someone posted because they got fined for having alcohol. LIU is a wet campus, that is, if you're legally able to drink. If you are under 21, NO SCHOOL allows you to drink. It isn't school policy, it's federal policy. Basically, if you can afford it then go here. The location is perfect. But if you're going to comment a year later the school is 40 grand angrily as if you did not know from the start, then do yourself a favor and just don't.
