Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
I've attended Texas A&M Galveston for three years now, and will be graduating in May. I will be receiving a bachelor's in Marine Biology. Although at first I very much enjoyed my time in TAMUG, as the years progressed I was forced to add more and more negative associations with the school. Starting with the living accommodations, it grew to a parking issue, a lunch issue, then to a professor problem, and finally then to an administration problem.
The dorms are disgusting, they are cinder block prison cells. There are mold problems in the bedrooms, and the bathrooms never look clean no matter how much you try. The lighting is depressing and the walls peel off. The parking issue is another big problem, TAMUG's growing student population was been largely ignored when it comes to parking availability. There have been multiple times where the only parking available was inside the teacher lot. If you wish to find a parking spot, be sure to arrive at around 8 AM or your going to be out of luck. TAMUG has recently began construction on a new dorm building, although a good it has removed a huge portion of the parking available to students. When I first arrived at TAMUG having a meal plan was somewhat convenient, but as the student population has grown getting into the cafeteria is just as hard as finding a parking spot. Ignoring the high cost of a meal, the food has become more tasteless each year. In order to receive a warm meal you have to arrive as soon as the food is served or your going to be out of luck.
Even though the professors, in most cases, are very knowledgeable in their fields they don't care at all when it comes to the students. Professors can be very condescending and will make you feel so small when you go to them with questions. I've also had an issue with a professor who was unhappy with the university and took it out on his class. Then there is Dr. Kanz, he has no interest in his students learning the material. The tests are beyond ridiculous and some of his jokes are borderline inappropriate. The administration is fine if you never need anything or have an issue with anything. When I was unable to enroll for a senior level class, because they had allowed freshmen to enroll in it, I was told by the head of my department that I could wait and take it next year. I was highly upset by the fact that I was told to hold back my graduation for one class, that should only be available to graduating seniors. I felt like I was treated as an insignificant student, since my tuition checks were soon going to come to an end. I feel as though all TAMUG and Texas A&M College Station care about is money and not their student population. My latest problem with the university is that they refuse to solve a block on my schedule. The block on my schedule is due to the fact that the university owes me money. And in usual Texas A&M fashion they refuse to solve the problem, I've been calling them for three weeks now and I'm nowhere closer to solving my problem. I'm so frustrated and upset that I have spent so much of my time and money on a school who's only concern is profit. If I could do it all again I would not attend this university or any other associated with Texas A&M. If you want to be seen as more than a walking paycheck, do not attend this university or any other Texas A&M school.
