From the reviews it seems majority of the people who attended Scranton loved it. My experience was different. Maybe I didn't meet the right people or take advantage enough of what the university had to offer, so take this with a grain of salt if you want.

Scranton has an excellent academic reputation, that being a Jesuit school with a wide variety of majors. I thought I got a very good education and professors for the most part were friendly and helpful. One thing I didn't like was academic majors were rigid. Now I know some majors are very subjective such as occupational therapy, but advisors and professors in academic areas didn't seem to take personal interests along with one's major. For example, I happen to enjoy ecology and Scranton does not offer a minor or concentration, but I would have enjoyed to put focus on that area whether it's taking classes or a research project. My advisor didn't really guide or help me create the opportunity to focus on that field.

The people are a mix. Most people appear to be friendly. In terms of having a fun social life, I found people to be at opposite ends of the spectrum; people either were conservative, completely anti-party, and didn't go out at all on the weekends or they would party too much and not focus enough on academics. I'm not saying there wasn't a median without any

work hard, play hard
people, but I noticed it in this school more than others.

The city of Scranton is just dreadful. It might as well be wiped off the face of the earth. The mentality is backwards with a depressed economy for decades. It seems that when students graduate the university they never stay in Scranton. No brainer why. I think it's important for a college to be in or near a decent city for job opportunities and university connections. This is a major downfall for the University of Scranton. The campus itself has improved, new buildings such as the student center and dorm complexes are beautiful. Layout of the campus isn't the greatest being in the middle of the city and having roads running right through campus grounds.

One thing I didn't not like at all about Scranton is that there is not one Division I sports team, I feel like it would do good for the school social scene. I'm surprised because the student body has much pride and is very community based.

Scranton is not a bad school. As I said academics are good and people are alright. I do believe there are more fun schools to attend, but I'm sure this is a great choice for some people.
