| 4th
year PhD student. Compared to universities in other states,
this place is very strange. It is the best
university in the state, but still not that good—USM, MSU,
and Ole Miss have the same qualifying standards and accept
all in-state students who meet the standards. Thus, you
are left with a lot of great students and a
lot of bad students. The campus is beautiful and
the town is a good place for a college.
It's safe, low traffic, and set-up well for students.
The key aspect of this school: Every major is
different. The school is not good or bad, the
majors are good are bad. Some majors (off the
top of my head, meteorology, engineering, vet scieneces) are great,
but many are very weak. This is my second
school I've attended and I feel slightly positive about it,
but it's nothing special. You can do a lot
worse, but go out of state if you have the
opportunity (save for those really good majors).
