Mary Washington is beautiful before you actually get to campus. Most of the student body is unfriendly and have the attitude that they are better than you. The jocks think they rule the school and lets be real it is division 3 and no one has spirit. The only people that have a social life are the kids of the varsity sports teams. I don't know why basically everything is so exclusive at UMW, for example parties. No one is willing to give anyone a try if they are outside of their group. After being there, I would have to say the NOVA mentality is really sick!! Just because you are from a town surrounding DC doesn't give you the right to think you are better than non NOVA people. This school is seriously a big high school and people that I know will agree with me. It's so clicky and if you don't find your niche then it can be hell. On a positive point, the professors are beyond great!! I think so highly of all my professors and they all have doctorates and are willing to help you out. On the other hand, I think the majors are outdated and the administration needs to work on that to make them real world majors. I would have to say that Mary Wash is great academically but the social scene is sad and the student body doesn't help that. I wish Mary Wash was more known, so it could have the respect it deserves for academic reasons. I also wish they weren't making it easier to get in because then I have no hope for the academic reputation. I hope this helps, but I wanted to give you the insider's view of UMW in my opinion!
