Lets see as a newly matriculated student I really expected the work to be more challenging and relevant. There is no specializing in the foundation year, which is very out of date because at St. Martins in london you do a fine arts foundation but specialize in fashion at the same time. So far these classes have not helped me grow or improve as a designer in the least. Really frustrating. They are mundane and elementary. I am not sure what I'm paying all this money for, $60k a year that is, for a school with a reputation that has been falling apart since its association with "the new school" a label of a spay painted street tag. How can that be taken seriously? They are blindly letting unqualified talentless hipster trust fund kids in who have no place or potential here and only perpetuates frustration for those talents that do belong. Parsons emphasizes American sportswear minimalism. sigh. Maybe someday they will reclaim their reputation, but as of now the school is still ranked #1 for US fashion school but St. Martins is still #1 in the world and it will stay that way until parsons cleans up the mess.
