For the most part in the education department, the professors were knowledgeable and reasonable. I enjoyed most of my coursework. My problem with the university is in the administration. They take any chance they get to screw you. The cost continues to rise in tuition and fees. They spend money on things that are not necessary and not enough money on faculty or helping students. The president has delusions of grandeur. This is not the "UT of the high plains" he envisions, nor should it be. WT's strength in the past has been affordability combined with good teachers who are more concerned with students than with research and more self-centered motives. I am afraid that is changing and it makes me sad. I promise they will get you on a technicality when it comes to finances and are never nice about it. The university should be spending money on better parking (WT is mainly a commuter school) not on exorbitant sports facilities and more expensive dorms. Also, be aware that you must live in the dorms until you are a junior at this university and I believe they use that policy to get you for more money. Although this university is cheaper than most larger universities, the price has risen dramatically in the last ten years. The "improvements" I see being done are unnecessary and expensive. Spend more on scholarships and professor pay and not on "beautification" that isn't really working in my opinion. I didn't choose this university because of its looks. I chose it because it was an affordable school that has outstanding degree programs and professors in the areas I was interested in.
