Holyoke Community College is completely what you make of it. If you come to this school with a bad attitude, it's going to be a bad experience. If you come to this school with an open attitude, you will probably have a good experience. Community College or not, it's still college and still counts towards your career.

First off, I would not recommend attending this school if you aren't from the area. The clics here are solid; don't expect many people to accept you with open arms. It's helpful when you know people from your high school who also attend. When it comes to students here, it's a hit or miss. There are a lot of ignorant Puerto Ricans who think they are on top of the world; it comes with the territory (Springfield, Holyoke, etc). It's the kind of school where people pretend no one else is walking in the hallway. Where I come from, you nod or at least smile politely at someone coming towards you in the hallway rather than pretending to text and completely ignoring you.

Although some parts of the buildings are under construction, HCC is a clean, beautiful campus. Most of the buildings are in acceptable shape, and there are lots of gardens and trees around. There are plenty of trash cans and garbage isn't just left where ever it lands.

Parking here absolutely sucks. If you want a decent spot, come before 9am or you'll be circling the parking lots trying to find a space available.

The faculty here is also a hit or miss. I have a really great English professor, but a lousy Math one. I walked up the front desk asking where a building was, and the teller had absolutely no idea. She looked at me like I was crazy. Luckily, HCC offers a transcript-free, payment-free opportunity in the first week of the semester to switch. If you don't hit if off with your professor, you can be transferred to a different class with a different professor.

As I said in the beginning, it's what you make of it.

Don't come in here with a bad attitude. Come in here with the attitude knowing it's a community college - a place to start out.
