Your experience will vary depending on the department and faculty members. I had some pretty horrible teachers that liked to insult students or be condescending. That was probably a total of 4 teachers in 2 years and a half years (i was part time), that's pretty good to me (according to the experiences i have had afterward). Most of my teachers were supportive and helped me when i needed it. As for the staff, one of the Deans actually helped me with a financial aid mishap and another professor helped me get math tutoring that i really needed. I also had a few professors encourage me to to more work because he saw my grade was slipping a bit and one of them said "Please go get your Bachelor's!" so you don't have to be a number, you just have to either participate, talk to the professors, give them a sign that you care. If you don't care, why should they? Some of the students that go there are friendly but a lot are not (i'm sure this changes too). The school is full of people who just got out of high school and are expecting easy grades by slacking. The cafeteria is pretty bad and yes full of kids being obnoxious but there are places to go and do some work like the library or quiet study. Forget about the escalators. The classrooms, restrooms etc. could use some fixing up too so the school is not aesthetically appealing. The school prepares you for what is about to come if you decide to go for a 4 year that is. I am currently in my senior year of an undergrad program and it is semi difficult but if i hadn't attended BMCC, i would have probably dropped out if i had entered my current school as a freshman.. I know of worse community colleges, BMCC is not that bad. Some of the professors are forced to dumb down the curriculum because of most of the students. I learned quite a bit and a few classes were fun to take (look for the nice/silly professors).
