All I can really say about Fort Lewis is that you have to love the mountains. If you don't love the mountains, forget it. I mean you really have to be like a mountain man or something to make the most of it.

Someone said in a previous post that there's a lot of competition to be the most "outdoorsy." Couldn't have said it better myself. If you're a dude, you better be able to grow a beard. It's that rugged.

The people who work at outdoor pursuits are pretty stuck up. Don't expect to book an ice climbing trip with them unless you have a friend who works there. It will be booked way before the flier gets stapled up.

If you love the mountains, go for it. If not, then try something else. Honestly, if you don't love the mountains, you shouldn't even be in Colorado in the first place. So maybe this post is just a bunch of general knowledge anyway.

I knew a lot of cool kids who just transferred to different schools after a year or two. And I knew a lot of kids who attended Fort Lewis because it was their "safety school" to Boulder or whatever. Basically, it isn't for everyone. A lot of students there take their sweet time in graduating because they just want to take it easy and be in their own little world in Durango. Honestly, that's not such a bad idea. Go there if you want a unique experience. But if you have an expectation of what your college experience should be, do yourself a favor and attended a larger campus in a less isolated town.

Overall, I'm glad that I graduated from Fort Lewis. College is a weird time. One day you're having the best time of your life, the next day you're wonder if you even have a soul. Really, college is like a journey. It's a privilege. So make the most of it. Think hard about where you want to be. And follow your heart.
