Discovering the U was like a stroke of fate for me, through random events I knew by the time admissions opened that this was the school for me. I applied on the first day and waited in anticipation for the time to come when I would move from my home in California to Minnesota. Maybe it's just because I'm so far from home that the experience is different for me, but I can say it's not at all what I expected. Academically the school is great, and the parties are insane, but I have yet to find another person like me among the 50,000 other students here. Not being used to the winter or midwestern lifestyle, it can get lonely here. I don't regret my decision to come here at all, but to keep in mind that while the parties at a big 10 school are awesome and you're right next to a huge international city, be prepared for the culture shock. it definently takes some getting used to.
