So how was/is the nursing program? I just got accepted for the fall of 2015. Any advice? |
Major: Nursing (This Major's Salary over time)
One thing you need to know before going here is that because this is a liberal arts school you need to take a hefty load of general education requirements in order to graduate. I personally do not like this because I feel that time I should be using to concentrate on my major so I can gain the skills I need to obtain a job once I graduate, is intead spent studying for Western Civ or some other class completely irrelevant my area of study. I know many people who have not graduated in 4 years because it was to difficult to complete all of the required courses for graduation. Also many of the advisers here are not careful to make sure that you are taking care of your graduation requirements each semester. Campus life is awful here. The dorms are all very old. There are constantly problems with hot water, mice, slow internet, bugs and heating in the dorms. The school is more like a community college in which the majority of the student body commute to school. Less than 300 people live on campus and this college is a suitcase college in which the weekends are very dead and your left with nothing to do. You can't go anywhere of campus unless you have a car. The campus is very isolated and Rockford is by no means a college town. The school is very strict and controlling and it is hard to find anything worthwhile to do on campus. The one thing I do like about this school is the smaller classroom size and personal experience you have with each of your professors. I have always felt that I can talk to my professors and that I am an actual person they know rather than a name or an ID number. Depending on what area of study you are interested in will determine if it is worth it to go here or not for you. A few of the departments here are really great and will prepare you to get a job after graduation. But most of them are not too great and I feel that someone could get a much better education and training at a different school. Unless you know that your particular major is part of a good department, I really would not recommend you come to this school.
