I'm currently a sophomore at Hendrix College.  Hendrix can best be described as misleading.  They promise students a positive, supportive environment provided by both faculty and students, but this could not be further from the truth.  A large majority of the students on campus are extremely cutthroat and snooty.  Most of them are well aware of their “superior intelligence” and seem to find joy in the struggles of their classmates.  Many of the faculty members are the same way, concerned more with their research than the success of their students.  If you are considering Hendrix for Pre-Medical studies, I DO NOT recommend it.  The admissions counselors will brag about their 88% acceptance rate into medical school.  This is unimpressive when you discover only 15 kids end up applying.  There is also an alarming issue with the “party scene” on campus.  Drinking is allowed for all ages and it always gets out of control.  Dorms will throw parties on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and the apartments have parties every night.  I expected partying to occur on campus, but not to this extreme.  I've seen kids doing cocaine and heroine and there have been several reports of rape.  But on parents weekend the Dean sends out an email basically telling kids to “sober up” before their parents arrive to maintain the school's good standing.  And if you don't like to party every single weekend and get insanely drunk, then you're immediately considered the outcast of the school and your social groups will be very limited.  I'm transferring at semester.  I'm sure I can get the same quality of education at a large public school and be much happier with the staff and students.
