Honestly, if you are considering this school and do not consider yourself stereotypically South Carolinian (hate football, do not want to go greek, are actually interested in some other activity besides getting drunk off your ass every night), then please consider the negative reviews before committing to this school. I just finished my third semester here and am still completely miserable. I thought there was just something wrong with me, but I am experiencing the exact same things the negative review posters experienced.Just so you know what I'm talking about, here's a pro-con list:Pro: Departmental faculty, study abroad programs, quality of the dorms (with the exceptions of Bates and McBryde)Con: All of the other faculty, closeminded students, drunken rednecks, football (just not my sport), the city of Columbia, student organizations, Greek organizations, the fact that I have to take antidepressants just to avoid offing myself because of the school, etc., etc.But in all seriousness, this school is NOT for everyone, including me.There are very few things I like about this school, and after taking a glance at this website, I'm seriously considering transferring.
