Please…do not make the mistake of coming to UMD because you like Duluth. I LOVE Duluth. I really do no like UMD. I am not going to tell you how great Duluth is, I'm going to tell you what the reality of UMD is…The most disappointing things about UMD are the student body and the academics. You will find that almost everyone that comes here is from the Twin Cities area. Most of the students who come here are not here for the education; I wouldn't describe them as academic at all. A good percentage wanted to go to U of M, but did not get in. So they are moping around here until they are able to transfer. The others came here because they like hockey. (Seriously?! You chose your university based on a sport??) Sigh. So that kind of gives you an idea of who comes here.You know how they tell you not everyone drinks/parties in college? FALSE. Everyone parties here, and this is not an exaggeration. There is NOTHING to do on the weekends except drink. The parties (especially certain frat parties) are sketchy as hell. So if you like that, than go here. If you are an idiot jock guy who came here for the hockey, or some bleach blonde, yoga pant-wearing bimbo who is only here because you couldn't get into the U of M, UMD is definitely the place for you.People are not friendly here. Don't come here expecting people to be friendly or "Minnesota Nice"The classes are ridiculous. My high school classes seem like rocket science compared to this..it's really a joke. At least in the lower levels I have taken, can't speak for the upper division classes.
