I came here with an open mind a side from the past violent events. I figured that as a result of the Cole Hall shooting, the girl murdered right off campus, the foot ball player shot, and shooting near the dorm, there would be an improvement in safety done by the city as well as NIU. I WAS WRONG! This semester three people were jumped and robbed two armed robberies, two shootings (one fatal). It is not safe to go here. I am transfering out after this semester. Crime that usually occurs in cities now occur here. NIU tried to spin the truth about the violence here. Students come here to get an education, but you really have to watch out. NIU does a good job covering up what goes on here, but the truth is students need to take a stand and when enrollment continues to drop, and violence goes up, maybe then there will be something done to regain its reputatuion. Its too bad because academically, its a great school.
