Millersville University is a great school as long as you are in education. If not then you may want to look somewhere else.Social life is virtually non-existent if you don't drink or party. When I got there, there were no clubs which were not associated with Greek life or academics. And if you wanted to join a club, you had to try to get past the clique barriers. Thank gosh a decent anime club was started on campus or else I would have gone crazy. And the surrounding area is pretty lame. I grew up in Lancaster, but even I have to admit that there isn't a whole heck of a lot to do. Stay away from Lancaster City. I lived in the dorms for the first two and a half years, but after being stuck in the worst dorm on campus for two years in a row with an RA who did not give a sh*t about anyone but herself, I moved home and commuted. Thank gosh my parents lived in Lancaster. The problem with the dorms and the grounds of the campus is the budget. The school spends money in the wrong places and has cut money for maintenance for the past five years. And if you live in a certain dorm, do not expect anything to be cleaned ever. Also, if you are an upper classman, you are not guaranteed a space in the dorms AT ALL. You have to participate in a lottery to get a space and even then you may end up somewhere awful.Millersville has a reputation for being the toughest state school to get in to, but this is not reflected in the student population. You often wonder why most students were even accepted. It's not hard to have them weeded out through academic probation as long as they screw up enough. There are some genuinely wonderful professors. I have some who, even after graduation are still interested in you and your development. But there are still some who are 100% awful and have no place teaching! I had one who you could have given an outline of your hand on a piece of paper in place of an assignment and he would have called it pure genius. The food… oh gods the food was truly awful. We always looked forward to tour days because that was when they put out the good stuff. The rest of the time the food was greasy, over/under-cooked, or vomit/diarrhea inducing. Good luck getting a nice piece of meat. And if there is a dish that is really popular, they will stop serving it because they can no longer make money on it. Also, the silverware is dirty ALL THE TIME. Also, it's under construction constantly. There will be no library for the next two years or possibly longer considering how construction with the Student Memorial Center went. And you will question what's going on with your money considering that they will build something one year only to rip it down and build something else the next year i.e. the ice cream shop. And beware of the MUPD. They are awesome when it comes to keeping the campus safe and yes there are some reports of crime (they have to inform you due to the law), but you can feel safe walking around campus at night. On the other hand if you have had ANYTHING to drink off campus (even if you are of age) and are returning to campus, be very careful as they may stop you and create lots of problems. Also, stick to the parking rules because they love to give parking tickets. And make sure you follow the set speed limit while in Millersville, because the borough police love to give speeding tickets.Honestly, I love Millersville. It was my "home" for four years. I would not trade my experiences there for anything in the world, but the school needs some improvement. If you are looking to go into education then I highly recommend it, but if not, look somewhere else.
