Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
Scranton was not one of my top choices for college. My high school grades sucked because I never cared, so most colleges did not accept me. However, Scranton gave me the chance I needed and for this I am thankful for them. This is a great school, but it is not for everyone (including me).ACADEMICSThe academics here are great. I am an early childhood education major and I can promise any education major that Scranton will teach you great things. I highly recommend taking the class Exceptional Lives with Professor Talarico (previously Professor Silla). Great class, great professor. I also recommend ANYONE coming into Scranton to be a part of the ADP program. It's an awesome program that teaches you very useful things, such as fixing your public speaking performance, using available resources, writing tips, etc. I'm not sure if you can choose your own professor for the ADP program, but if you can choose Professor Walsh. She is an angel! She is the best professor I've ever had and I will always remember her from just having her as a teacher for only one semester.PARTIESIf you are looking for wild parties, do yourself a big favor and don't come here. Please. I've gone to crazier parties in 3rd grade at the bowling alley. I came into Scranton as a huge partier and found myself extremely disappointed and wanting to stay in every weekend. The kegs are tapped by 10pm and if there isn't just one they hide the other. If you are looking for a place that can ease you into becoming part of the party scene, then this school is your place. However, if you know how to party already, do not get your hopes up.PEOPLEThere are generally two kinds of people who go to Scranton. One is an all-work-and-no-play student who does not go out on weekends. Then there are the once conservative people who have never partied in their lives, but now that they are able to stand on their own two feet and can make their own decisions and be free, they go ape shit…drinking far more than they can handle (3 shots) and puking all over the streets, they are the reason sirens go off 20 times a night from the ambulances filled with drunken amateurs (if the sirens aren't because of the robs, assaults, or stabbings).U of S has a reputation for being friendly. Everyone seems TOO nice, though. I still can't tell if everyone is just being that nice because they are robots or because they are genuinely all nice people. I feel that a lot of the people here are fake, however I have met a lot of really good people who are naturally and genuinely kind-hearted.FACULTYThe faculty is awesome. As an alumni of a high school filled with awful teachers, I find the kindness and understanding of the faculty here at Scranton to be a relief. I love all my teachers, for they are amazing people. Being that I am an education major, I don't know how the faculty is in the science or business departments, but I'm sure they are just as nice as all of the faculty I have met so far. The secretaries are the sweetest and even the chefs are saints. Scranton has a very friendly environment, I just feel that it is too much for me.FOODOne word. BANGIN.
