Tulane is AWESOME. I've completed one semester and it has been the funnest few months of my life. I got good grades too so don't think I'm just some party animal! Anyways, the academics were a bit easier than i expected. the gym (reilly)- usually always can get an elliptical, the weight room also has a few machines that i as a girl would use. the freshman dorms- most of the freshman dorms are really quite decent. I live in one of the "typical" freshman dorms where people tend to party. My dorm at least, on the weekends everyone is going out and having fun but during the week most people are studying. You can study in your common rooms and not have to worry about noise, there are also a few other people studying at the same time. The inside of the rooms have red brick walls which is such an improvement from the jail-cell white cinder block walls at other schools. The dorms are pretty strict about alcohol and come in your room if your being too loud which sucks.Bruff (dining hall)- this is one of the worst parts of tulane. Although the food is actually pretty decent, iafter about three months you will be ordering takeout a lot because the bruff food gets so repetitive. Also, the workers are very unfriendly.Wifi- actually this is the worst part of tulane. The wifi turns on and off randomly and sometimes when you really need it to turn something in or to signup for classes or something. The wifi outages only last a few minutes though but theyre really frustrating. I guess you cant complain too much though cuz most other schools still don't even have wifi and require an ethernet cable.Night Life/ Parties- the nightlife is awesome. In new orleans you definitely don't need to be 21 or even have a fake to get into the bars and drink. You live the life that your friends at other schools have to wait until theyre 21 to live. There are never any dorm parties, which you may want for your college experience. We don't usually play drinking games either. You can walk to most bars and the ones far away/ downtown you can take a taxi, and if you share it with like 4 people its only like 4-5$ each. The frats have about 1 party a weekend, only some of them themed. The frats aren;t as fun because the cops always come and break them up about 1-2 hours into the party (no one ever gets in trouble- don't worry, they just make you leave). If not that, they run out of alcohol and kick everyone out. If your not into alcohol there are plenty of people with you on that. Even people who are partyers stay in sometimes on weekends and just hangout. There is also some friday night entertainment.New Orleans- before everyone got to tulane, they expected to be going downtown to bourbon street every weekend. Almost everyone has only gone 2-3 times the first semester, its really a rare thing. The trolley ride takes way too long for it to be worthwhile. The trolleyride is fun and interesting though so it depends on what you like. The food of new orleans is amazing and hard to resist. there are plenty of concerts and festivals throughout the year in new orleans.Academics- so far i've been mostly taking the required freshman classes. None of them have been too challenging but I am often up until at least 1am finishing my studying/assignments. They cut out most of the busy work, such as Calc, homework is optional, so if you know the stuff you don't need to waste your time. There is a bit of unfairness in teachers though, some of your friends will be in a much easier or harder class than you because of their teacher. Overall- Tulane is awesome! if you have the means to go here- DO IT! you don't have to party to go here but if you do its the best school to do it at. Tulane has a reputation for having stuck-up rich kids, but everyone here is sooo nice and do not fit that stereotype! the best part of tulane is probably new orleans but the reputation of the school will get you far after graduation.
