Orientation for transfer students is a waste of time. I learned more from my one on one with an advisor. Sadly, good advisors leave and the poor ones stay behind. Faculty advisor's don't have the time for students and students are left with lots of questions. Registration turns into a "where is your advisor…" game. My suggestion is to get to know your advisor way in advance and also build a relationship with a general advisor. I lucked out, but can't say what's going to happen now that my favorite advisor resigned.
