Washington College is a perfect school for the right type of person. The socially elite students of wac typically come from old money and are the definition of preppy. Think girls in Lilly Pulitzer and guys in pastel colored pants and vineyard vines ties. Although these poster children may appear snooty, for the most part they are approachable. Wac is also home to some alternative hipster-like kids, mostly belonging to the schools amazing literature and creative writing program. These are the two main social groups on campus. I wouldn't consider myself extremely preppy or an alternative type person, so at times I feel lost here socially. Being a more liberal minded person has also proven to be a challenge here. The majority of students identify themselves as republicans, although most have little knowledge of politics. If you don't drink (heavily) you might want to look for another school. Because Chestertown lacks in activity, students turn to heavy drinking on weekends and occasionally weekdays in order to have a good time. What Chestertown lacks in activity it makes up for in charm. It is an adorable town that sits right on Chester River. It has so much history and has a few good bars and places to eat. Academics here are top notch. Professors truly know what they're talking about and will do anything in their power to see you succeed. All of my professors know my name and I take great comfort in that. The food here isn't bad at all. Nothing to write home about, but definitely edible. If you're hesitant about the idea of a small school, this is not the place for you. It is guaranteed that you will see the same faces everyday. Wac is like it's own little bubble which provides the close-knit feeling. Overall, if you're looking for a tiny school with not much diversity in which you will get a fabulous education while consuming copious amounts of alcohol in a beautiful seaside town, become a shoreman.
