My perspective is as an alumnus and a parent with kids attending Nova. I am honestly motivated to write this review based on the negative comments while reviewing colleges for yet another kid.

Social life, drinking, and the Villanova experience - Partying is not like a state school. Nova should lighten up on campus parties. The liability increases, but I would rather have kids on campus than off to drink. That said, milder gatherings and drinking does happen on campus. It is not dry. Basketball games at the Philly Sports complex have tailgates, and football at PPL has the same (more games there expected). I think if you look for a social life you will find it. And when you hit 21 there are great bar options. There is the Villanova stereotype of the rich stuck-up white kid, and there are some of those. In my honest opinion they were the minority then and now. My stereotype description would be Italian and Irish kids from Catholic schools and public schools, from middle class families. To me the lasting Villanova Experience is very good friends that are very good people. Fun, well rounded, good people, with a lasting connection to Villanova. They are generally successful(some very successful) in work and more importantly in life with stronger families than typical. The basketball tradition is a plus for staying connected. The Villanova Experience to me also includes a solid education, a great Nova reputation, mixed with a social awareness and ethical emphasis.

The degree and your career - The Nova education and reputation is very good especially in the North East. I think some that bash the school expect too much. You don't normally land a job because of the school name. It is one positive of many that you must bring to the table. Same is true for BC, ND, GTown, Lehigh, Bucknell, etc. Maybe some land a job directly through the network, but not from my perspective and I have hired a lot of people.

The religion - As a non-Catholic I never felt left out and neither have my kids. I never felt smothered by religion. I do appreciate the Augustinian values and the culture of the school. If you are very religious you have many opportunities for your interests and devotion. If you are not you will not feel out of place. If you are offended by religion this is not the place for you.

Current students that are anti-Nova I suspect might have trouble being happy anywhere. For a percentage of students, and adults of all ages, that will always be true. Be happy with yourself and make the most of your opportunities and you will take a lot from the Villanova experience, and you will be part of it and add to it as well.
