Major: Anthropology (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm very opinionated about UCSD and always tell high school students to avoid this school. I entered as a Bio major but switched after being sick of 500-student lecture halls with certain ethnic groups having huge cheating circles ruining the curve. Luckily I switched to Bio Anthro which I loved - the department was small and the # people in my major was even smaller, so I got to repeat classes with the same 3-4 faculty and same group of 20 people. I did have some classes my senior year that literally had 10-15 people in them and that was GREAT. Unfortunately I was a lucky case because I did choose a very random field to study. If you go into any of the popular majors (Bio, Chem, Poli Sci, Econ, Sociology, Psych, etc…) you will never see a class smaller than 200 people.

This school tries to show students that it cares by putting forth BS initiatives like tutoring centers (led by TA's who are only able to answer the easiest 1+1 questions) or "dine with a prof" program or other cheap fix-it-quick gimmicks but the reality is, in order for this school to become a GOOD school they need to cut class size and hire professors who care about students. That's never going to happen.

Why UCSD was the biggest waste of my time - I'm actually at a Cal State now pursuing a 2nd B.S in Bio because I realized that Bio WAS what I wanted to do, but UCSD made it impossible for me to pursue that path. I'm much happier at my cal state where my classes have 20 people in them, my classmates are super chill and willing to share notes, and the variety of classes is actually pretty good. Funny note: I saw another girl in one of my bio classes sporting a UCSD sweater, overheard her talking about her exp. at UCSD to someone else! She was in the same boat as me! Don't let this happen to you!!! Go to a cal-state or a small private school! you can email me

questionWhere did you attend after you left UCSD?
questionHi. Thank you for writing your review. Sorry you had to go through all that. I was also debating on going to UCSD, but heard it's really not the best place for under grads. I'm a math major, with about 2 years left to go in my degree. I've been in the California community college system this whole time. I already got into several Cal States, but was offered admission to UCSD for fall of 2015. Do you know anything about the Math Department over there? Best of luck also in your future endeavors.
