Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time)
My semester at UNC-G was by far the biggest mistake I have ever made in my entire life. I am a history major with plans of attending law school. All I knew about the school came from review books, talking to professors at various schools regarding the history department, and information mailed to me by UNCG. I failed to research what people who actually went to the school had to say, and looking back I cannot believe how blind I acted. I expected UNCG to be a smaller version of a big school; I was hoping for the same environment as a place like NC State or UNC but with less people. I was wrong. The social life here sucked. Everyone leaves on weekends. More than once on a Saturday morning I noticed I was the only person on all of College Avenue when I was heading to get breakfast. A lot of people don't try, but I tried everything. I joined the legal club within 3 weeks of school starting and they didnt have a single meeting the entire semester. The history club wasnt much better, the meeting I went to was attended by only 4 other students (all upperclassmen who had given themselves officer titles). The history department's one lecture for the entire semester was on the history of halloween! (Call me crazy but I expected more and serious lectures) I tried to review music for the school's radio station, and despite the guy in charge promising to meet with me after attending an interest meeting, he was never in his office/didnt respond to emails/didnt respond to a facebook message I sent him. I was accepted to audition for mascot but the suit was too small for me. I then tried to get an internship helping with the basketball team but they never called me back. I also enrolled in the Ashby Residential College at Mary Foust, which turned out to be a nightmare. While the classes offered are cool, a lot of the people who live their are weird and the social atmosphere within the dorm (not to mention the entire school) is very clique oriented. UNCG does have a very good gym, and it is one of the few things on campus that I was able to count on but the weekend hours are awful. Speaking of awful, the cafeteria is the worst. I've found hair in my food and have seen flies in the serving area. They shut down the good half of the cafeteria on weekends, operating with very tight hours for the logical reason that their arent enough people using it to keep it open. Get as much flex you possibly can, you will be needing it! Just don't go on Tate Street after dark. Literally right across the street from where UNCG's campus officially ends, two people were shot. Numerous muggings also occurred during my time their. However, I have walked from downtown to campus without issue numerous times.

To all of the people who are looking into UNCG, I applaud you for actually reading up on it beforehand. Do not make the same mistake I did. If all that I said does not phase you, I hope you enjoy yourself. All I know is that I can confidently say UNCG was not the school for me.
