Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
Morgan State is a good place to go to if you really want to learn how to manage your time and focus on your school work. I was the type of student in high school, who studied half the time and did well. Here at Morgan, you can't do that at all. For my freshmen year, I had overloaded classes to challenge myself, which I did. With good study habits, I surpassed almost all of my classmates with content knowledge, and still do. Most of the students don't study as supposed to, which is the reason why most of the students either switch their majors or leave school. Morgan is challenging, it's easy to get in but hard as hell to get out. You have to have a relationship with your professor in order to pass. You should study at least 4 times a week (depending) or make sure you have your stuff together to pass your class. Some professors always use their assigned books, some use Blackboard, some give you made-up shit. But that's college. Professors think they are high and mighty so they can give you whatever assignment, BUT with this, if you butter them up you could probably get them to give you extra-credit. I know colleges shouldn't give extra-credit, but a lot of the professors know that some things are just too difficult for most of the students because a lot of the student body did not do well in high school, so it's a learning experience. I am in my second semester sophomore year as an Elementary Education Major and I can say that when I graduate, I know that all the knowledge that I have learned and will learn will definitely help me when I become a teacher, because our department makes sure you pass your ceritifications before you graduate, and they give you an internship. Also, speaking as a work-study student in one of the departments, I do know that many students find it difficult to pass their classes because they have trouble focusing and managing their time because of outside activities (clubbing, bar hopping, riding around the city, doing nothing), so if you believe that you may be vunerable, TRY to find a good group or person who help you become academically successful. Throughout my time at Morgan, I have had tons of study-buddies, encouraging peers, and tutors. You must use all the resources you have to succeed. Many students don't look into finding tutors, getting help from their professors, or even asking their classmates. I was also a Teacher's Assistant for my English class, and I knew that most of the students did not do squat because they were so busy with their own stuff instead of schoolwork and homework. Many students are procrastinators here, filling up the library only during Midterms and Finals, although the library should be filled all the time. If everyone went to the library on a regular basis to STUDY and not chill, most of our students would graduate on time and our retention rate would go through the roof. Sadly, you only see students really trying to pass their classes after Midterms, because they are afraid of failing. Even when they fail they don't seek help and fail again. If you are ready for a challenge, get ready. Cause it's hard to pass unless you really study.
