The college experience here at UCSB is not comparable to anywhere else. It's a combination of every positive thing you can experience at a 4-year university. If there were a more perfect balance of work and play, I would be in some sort of heaven. Because 2 sides of the campus surrounded by a beach and the other is bordered by the mountains, students definitely take advantage of our surroundings. Perfect weather (75 and sunny) graces us all year round. With a never-ending bathing suit season, almost all students are in perfect shape so you can bet we have not only a beautiful location but a beautiful student population. Most people are involved in some sort of extracirricular activity and almost everybody stays in shape by participating in an IM sport or working out at the state of the art recreation center. The atmosphere is very casual… When you visit you will definitely be able to feel the relaxed atmosphere. Because of this you can bet that there will always be someone wiling to go out with you on a random Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday night (because we don't discriminate here). However, just because we're very laid back people, we excel in the classroom. Nationally ranked one of the top 10 public universities in the country, students do take their academics very seriously. Instead of having a competitive "I'm going to beat everybody" attitude, however, classroom environments and student interaction encourages collaboration. Students would rather work together to see everyone be amazing rather than try to shoot down other students. The campus includes a numerous amount of prestigious professors and other faculty members who provide a unique experience in which the studies being found today are taught in classes by the researchers who discovered it right after it had been found.
