If you are Indian, White, African, Smart, rich, weird, had a hard time making friends in high school, if you would be considered a person who is a couple notches less than cool, gay, and non black or African American you would perform great here. If you still do construction paper crafts in your spare time you would be the perfect Roo. If you are one of those people who performs fine despite the fact that you are uncomfortable you would also be fine here. When Kanye said, "Bush don't care about black people" he should have included AC in that rant. The fact of the matter is AC is for a certain type of person. If you are not that type of person you are probably not going to like it. The overall goal of the school to have small classes and challenging courses is great and I don't put it past the school that many people from here succeed in life. As an African American, who wants to be in a place far away from home where just because you are black you have a hard time making friends, have a hard time finding someone who can take you seriously, and being in a place where its cool to always point out the black person (those jokes just like any other joke gets old). I would rather go to a school where I feel that I can grow as a person and strengthen my foundation through academics, friends, etc so late on when I absolutely have to deal with the race issues its not that big of a deal. There is no place to release frustrations from the day, because you are surrounded by sticks and its so small you might see the same racists person that called you a N*G*A in so many words 12,000 times in a week. The faculty is supportive, but there are some who don't mind reminding you that you are in fact black. I have never been so aware of the way I look until I arrived at AC. So in all seriousness go to Austin College because it is a good school if what the school offers is what you need, but know that if you are African American your experience could be very different from what you are expecting it to be when you fill out the application. Everyone is different, but…you have been warned.
