Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
I essentially moved to Vegas and when I couldn't find a job, I tentatively decided to attend the MA program in political science at UNLV. I have been interested in concentrating in American Politics, which according to pamphlets, can be done at UNLV. It can be, but the department doesn't really care for American politics and focuses largely on international relations and comparative politics, so its really hard to find classes I want to take and find enough classes to fulfill the requirements. But all in all the department isn't terrible, they just focus in things I could care less about. My main issue is with the school in general. They look for any reason to charge you with out of state tuition (which the are doing to me) then squeeze dimes out of you every chance they get. They charge you $50/ semester for parking of which there is none and the regularly cut out student parking for events at the Thomas and Mack center. They also charge ridiculous fees which they take out of YOUR student loans, essentially for no reason. I get my refunds directly deposited and they take upwards of $300 out per loan. The financial aid office is not helpful. All in all, I kind of regret coming here. I did get some masters credits but I overpaid for them. If you're from out of state, I'd suggest finding somewhere else.
