I just finished my freshman year at the University of the South. I started off the year as a nervous freshman who didn't know one person, and ended the year with such a solid group of friends. I absolutely loved everything about this school and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming here. As you will read in many of the other reviews on this site, the campus is absolutely gorgeous. While many people will look at its isolation (it's about 25 minutes to the nearest Wal-Mart) as an annoyance, I ended up loving the tranquility of being able to relax on campus without worrying about driving everywhere or anything else. You will definitely get a good education here, no matter what you major in. I've never worked so hard in my entire life, and can't help but get a little "bitter" or jealous when I hear about my friends at other schools getting a much easier homework load. However, looking at the big picture, I know that I'm going to learn so much more and have a much more well-rounded education. As for the people that claim the school can be close minded-I actually found myself being more global-minded and interested in world affairs at Sewanee than I did in a big city back at home. Even though you're far away from any real "civilization," the professors here make sure that you excel in outside-the-box thinking and are aware of things going on in other cultures. The parties here are great, and no matter which ones you go to there is always an overwhelming sense of community. I think the only negative part about coming to this school is that some of the kids are very rich and come off as stuck up. Granted, the majority of the kids at this school are loaded, but most of them don't make a big deal about it and are still down to earth. It can be annoying though when you don't know anyone at the beginning of the year because you start to stereotype all of the kids here as rich and snobby. I promise you though that is not true, you will find a solid group of friends when you get here, no matter what type of person you are.
