Major: Computer Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
I am an immigrant international student. I could not go to a University, because I had to work full time to support myself. There had been a few years since i graduated from high school, so I decided NVCC as a good option to start. It took me almost one and a half year to finish introductory writing classes and now I have been taking transferable credit classes for last two semesters.Having majored in computer engineering, my overall experience at NVCC has not been bad. I have finished most of the introductory math calculus 1,2 and 3 classes, English 1 and 2, some general studies and physics classes. I am going to finish more than 40 credits in one year and I am transferring to a 4 year University.
Well, some classes are easy and some are challenging depending upon your professors and majors, but overall all classes were not as much challenging as I expected. I worked 20 hours a week, took 14 credits a semester and got excellent grades.I would suggest to look at professors rating before signing up for classes and have a good self-study strategy. If you want to excel,do more homework problems than you are assigned. Choosing a good professor is very important; some physics professors at Alexandria campus are superb, they break down complex concepts into simpler and understandable form, some teach something that do not even make sense to you, so be careful in selecting professors.Obviously it is a community college, so do not expect to get good student body and social life and lively environment; you are yourself. you make some friends in one class and never see them again. I would recommend to go to NVCC if you,1. want to take classes part time2. are financially struggling3. not able to get into 4 year university and want to get good foundation4. an international student and want to save moneyBut ,if you are a self-motivated and very good student with good financial support who want to take challenging academic courses to excel yourself , probably it is not the school for you.
