The negative comments are mostly bullshit. Comming from a city in eastern Pennsylvania I can verify that clarion is a great place in comparison. The students and faculty are incredibly friendly and the people in town will be cool to you as long as you dont act like a retard.

Although classes are typically not hard (i got a 3.1 in high school and i have a 3.8 after one year here) some science classes like bio prin 1 are rigorous but incredibly worth while. Unfortunatly most of the kids here are not very smart, they're friendly, but dumb. Espescially the education and commounications majors. Also there seem to be a number of pre-meds who cannot do basic math or science but still think theyll get into med school with a 3.0. But if you are somewhat intelligent and try fairly hard you can still thrive at clarion and get into a good grad school or get a decent job.

If you visit and hear anyone complaining about the party scene then they are probably freshmen who walk across town every friday night and pay 5 bucks to get into a fraternity party where they'll drink natty light and enjoy a 3:1 guy girl ratio, and 2:1 of those girls have std's. If you know the right people as a freshmen there is a pretty aswome social/party scene. Although academics are not top notch clarion is still a pretty great place for the money.
