I loved my time at the University of Evansville, but just like every college, it has its ups and downs. The faculty is quite helpful and they want to know you on a personal level. Many teachers gave their numbers to their students. They also invite the students to the president?s house for a meals and ice cream. My advisor constantly stayed in communication to make sure I was on the right track for classes and performing well academically.

The school is fairly expensive and may be hard to fund. Everyone I met on campus (and I knew a lot of people) received a scholarship of $10,000 or more. Many people were also employed for the schools work study program. I still had to take out large loans to help. The school's career service center is quite useful. They have many job requests sent in by the community. I am sure you will find a job that suits your needs.

Many of the classes are challenging. They usually require a lot of studying. I remember staying up late (until about 2-3am) a couple of nights just to complete some homework. Be prepared to take notes and pay attention in class, otherwise you will not do well. Procrastinating is not advised otherwise you will struggle.

The dorms are in okay condition. Some of the RA's (resident assistant) where incompetent and hard to contact if you needed them. They also have some problem with bugs and rats in a few of the dorms.

The food is average. I didn't have high expectations for it to begin with. They are extremely limited on what you can get. It get's old fast. Fortunately, you can use flex to order pizza or potatoes (yay for Spudz-n-stuff!).

They have many clubs on campus to meet everyone's needs! I highly suggest getting involved. Greek life is present on campus. The Fitness Center is fun. They have many activities going on daily, or you can create your own. They have lots of equipment and resources to use. You can always go to the big lecture hall and watch movies in there. Weekends are usually dead. The buildings are open, but all the doors are locked. They close early and you will be kicked out of them.

The student body is small, yet diverse. I met many people from all over the country and all over the world. People tend to hang in their little groups. It is not hard to make friends though. The groups are easy to approach and are very accepting of new people, once you get passed the intimidation of the "cliquiness."

Tutoring and SI (supplemental instruction) are there for students who need extra help. I have never attended a session, but I have heard bad things about them. The students who lead them are rude. Also, it is hard to build a schedule since it is based on when the tutors are free, and you may not be able to get a tutor at all.

The campus is small. I loved the older look to the buildings. Campus is gorgeous during the spring/summer months. During the winter, things look dead and are not as elegant. It is located by a city. The surrounding area is decent. To the south and east are some beautiful houses, but that?s about it.

I feel moderately safe. The school has a feature that sends text alerts to your phone to alert you about threats (weather, criminals, and just about any other kind of alert). Though it?s a great idea, it usually is not effective. The alerts are a big joke around campus. The alerts are almost always late. It will start storming bad and about 10 minutes later you get the text with the warning. There were two incidents when an armed person robbed the Subway across the street. There is also the "bad section" of Evansville close to campus.

Overall, I thought UE was a great experience. Even though I was out of state, I felt right at home. I would attend UE again.
