Go Frat or Go Home… Literally.

Being an open-minded, liberal, creative, and socially successful high school senior, I was overjoyed when I received my acceptance letter in the mail. Although unrealistic, I to moved into my freshman dorm believing that I'd found my way to utopia. First semester freshman are treated like gold. Every club, sports team, and greek organization pampered me with hope, interest, and even delivered delightful little paper invites to their parties right to my door. I am also an athelete and was recruited as a high school senior, so I even had a group to sit with at lunch, picture perfect, no?

It became very apparent that the late night party scene was entirely dominated by the greek system—frats. There are 8 active fraternities on campus, 2 of which are dry/honors meaning they do not party, and one is currently lacking a house. So to any student on campus there are 5 frats that matter. First semester frieshman are welcome to "check-out" any frat they wish, as they near the end of that 1st semester they are less welcome… unless they are on the rush list. If you are not a 1st semester freshmen, you must be on the guestlist (each brother may add one guest) and if you're not on that list the brothers at the door will tell you to buzz off.

BUT that's only guys.

Girls on the otherhand are always welcomed, no guest list spot needed, you'll only get shut down if your body doesn't meet their standards or if you won't leave your boyfriend who can't get in because he isn't in the fraternity. Sadly, F&M's girls don't seem to care about the guys who don't get in, and care much more about the guys who they're about to dance with and maybe take back to the room in a drunken stupor.

And that brings me to where I am now, more or less. I'm not greek, I tried to be and didn't get in. Sure, greeks will catagorize me as

he's just mad cuz he didn't get a bid
and you know what, thats true. I know myself, and I know that I'm no loser/weirdo/or loner, but just because I'm not greek shouldn't make me feel like one.

F&M as a college: Perfect for me. I could go on forever about how great the education is, but somebody else can do that.

F&M a social scene: Go greek or go home, literally.
