I attended the University of Phoenix for approximately two years. I now attend an accredited state college, as they offered my degree program online. I think UOPHX is the perfect university for people who would otherwise never earn a degree - there is a high amount of hand holding and support by staff, and classes are organized into learning teams so that you have continued support by people who are working alongside you. I have seen many people flourish in this environment. The downside is that many of the students need to be carried. Many students come from bad backgrounds and suffer from major ignorance. I also ran into odd problems with other students. One example is a student did not have internet access and transportation issues, yet was attending UOPHX! He'd go to the library once a week to log in - he was never truly able to pull his weight. This is frustrating for other members in a learning team. Another girl got a DUI and could never attend team meetings…nor did she ever try to make up for it via our assignments. I had one student in several of my classes who clearly lacked intelligence and common sense to the point to where I wondered if she should obtain vocational therapy before considering going for a college degree. Again, everyone had to carry her because she could not understand any of the work. Now that I am at a state college, I am not in learning teams and I have to figure everything out for myself. I have to say I am pleasantly HAPPY! I have to say I spend at least 10 hrs less a week on school work because I don't have to collaborate with people who do not know how to work with others and pull their own weight.
