I am currently a first year student at SMU from California. My daily is not loaded, we're well off but I came to SMU on an academic scholarship & let me tell you it's been the best decision of my life. Is there a ridiculous amount of wealth on campus? YES. But it will only bother you if you let it, there's a lot of rich kids, there's a lot of average kids, and there's a lot of poor kids, just like anywhere else. If you become consumed and insecure that you can't afford tory burch sandals and designer sunglasses then thats your problem, what you'll come to realize is no one really cares. Nice things are just things and at the end of the day the students here are genuine and will seek you out for your friendship not your money. Overall, the university is a perfect balance. The schoolwork is challenging and engaging and your teachers actually care. The school holds your hand, especially during your first year, and wants to see that you'll succeed and are working towards a future. Which isn't hard to do considering the job opportunities that are thrown at us left and right. We havent even reached our second semester and almost all my friends have summer internships lined up. The students here are ridiculously good looking and friendly, although I will admit SMU lacks diversity. There's a lot of conservatives on campus but I'm a left wing liberal and it's never been a problem. The night life is unreallll! there is something to do every night, from chill nights at bars, to dance clubs, to renting out water parks, to hiring surprise artists, the SMU frats stop at no end to show us a good time. Also, SMU's rep is on the rise and it'll continue to go up in the future, making our degrees more and more valuable.
