This school does not cater to minorities so stop with the ignorant comments! |
Hi I want to apply UIC but there is lots of bad comment. I have 2.78 GPA but good grades in economics A,A-,B they are. I am mathematician. Do you think any other school accept me from USA? I accepted from university of Exeter in UK but I want to USA. |
Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
Overall, I like UIC. I thought the school was of high accademic quality; however, I felt there was a severe lack of "school spirit". UIC gives the impression of a school of "last resort" or a "Plan B" option for its students. I think there needs to be a cultural change within the university to shed this inferior status and maybe break away from being in the shadow of the UIUC campus. The school does cater to minorities and foreigners, which I think is an overall good thing. But, I do think the school needs to do a better job connecting with white kids in the Chicago Suburbs and maybe even extend out to the entire Midwest too. UIC is a research school and I think that identity shows itself in its instruction method. The priority is not teaching. You will have a lot of classes taught primarily by Teaching Assistants, many of them foreign graduate students. Classes are also large, but get smaller as you move into the upper-level courses. Definitely a liberal campus atmosphere and I think there's a social justice emphasis in many of the Liberal Arts courses.Overall - great school. I enjoyed my time there! I received a great education and I would recommend this school to anyone. I will say that I think I would have preferred a more traditional college experience at a school in a "college town" as opposed to the city and might have chosen another campus if I had to do it all over again. But, I did like UIC a lot.
